Nottingham hotel plans up for discussion

Share | |

Plans for a new hotel in Nottingham centre will be discussed at the city council's development control committee tomorrow. Councillors will decide whether to approve planning proposals to renovate Catherine House in Woolpack Lane and to demolish a more modern building to create a new 65-bed hotel in the Lace Market area of the city.

The proposals include demolishing the front of a 1960s building which is in a poor state of repair and replacing it with a six-floor hotel with reception area, bar, and breakfast lounge on the ground floor.

Catherine House, a Victorian building, will form part of the new development. Councillor Alan Clark, portfolio holder for neighbourhood regeneration, said: "Having plans for another new hotel in Nottingham city centre shows continued confidence that the city is withstanding the downturn in the national economy.

"Not only do the plans demonstrate the strength in our local economy, but the fact that we have had three hotels seeking planning permission in as many months, shows the pull of the city for visitors."
