ICT businesses offered trip to Canada
Information and communication technology (ICT) companies in the West Midlands are being urged to explore their business potential in Canada. The UK Trade & Investment's Coventry & Warwickshire international trade team has organised a trip across the pond to help businesses build relationships.
Hi-tech companies in the region can apply to join the trip to Toronto and Waterloo, which takes place from 27 September to 1 October.
The successful companies, which will be given a £600 visit grant from the organisation, will be researching the marketplace which could lead to gaining new clients and developing partner relationships.
The trip includes a visit to technology event Technocity in Toronto,as well as networking meetings with local ICT associations at Canada's Technology Triangle in the Waterloo region. Delegates will also be introduced to potential partners and clients.
The visit will be led by Louise Bennett, leader of Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
International trade adviser Bineet Desai, based at Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: "Businesses such as Research in Motion (RIM) - the company behind the BlackBerry brand - have emerged from Canada and many leading international technology firms, including IBM, Ericsson, Cisco, Dell, Microsoft and Nokia, either operate in the country or work closely with Canadian partners.
"The size and range of the market mean there are many opportunities for West Midlands firms, particularly in wireless and mobile telecommunications, ICT security, healthcare ICT, enterprise applications, social networking, digital media, software and services.
