Corby's £100m redevelopment halted
Land Securities, the company behind the £100m regeneration of Corby town centre, has left the project. Existing plans for the town centre's regeneration, which in its second stage of development, “are no longer viable”, the developer said.
Now the developer has pulled out of the project, named Evolution, Corby Borough Council is considering taking on the regeneration itself, according to reports.
Tom Venner, retail portfolio manager for Land Securities said a study looking at other development and investment options for Corby was underway and was due to be completed before the end of 2010.
He said: "Land Securities has made major improvements to Corby town centre, however existing plans for the second phase of development are no longer viable. We will continue to invest in Corby, focusing on improvements to Corporation Street, New Post Office Square and the Oasis Retail Park."
The Evolution redevelopment would have incorporated the former bus station site and the town’s Crown House office block.
Corby Borough Council did not respond to requests for a comment before Insider’s deadline.
