Pub chain operator JD Wetherspoon has opened two pubs in Nottingham, creating 95 jobs. The company has spent more than £1.7m on the properties in Sherwood and Carlton.

Wetherspoon spent £1.1m developing a former Co-op store in Carlton Hill, now named "The Free Man". A further £670,000 was spent developing the site of a former pub, The Oak Tree, in, Mansfield Road, Sherwood. The Wetherspoon pub is now called "The Samuel Hall".

Both new pubs will specialise in real ales, serving a wide range of beers, including those from Nottingham and regional brewers.

Kenny Sissons, manager of The Samuel Hall, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and am confident that it will be a good addition to Sherwood’s social scene.”
