Derby train maker creates 400 jobs
Bombardier, the train maker based in Derby, has announced it will create 400 short-term jobs, and is urging workers in the East Midlands to apply for the year-long vacancies. James Wall, from employment company Short Term, which is marketing the vacancies, told Insider: “The jobs are open to anyone with a manufacturing or engineering background in the West and East Midlands."
He added that Staffordshire's former JCB workers, 2,000 of which lost their jobs recently, should consider applying for the vacancies. Jobs have also recently been lost at the Toyota site in Burnaston.
"Obviously, we’d encourage the former workers at JCB and Toyota to apply, but wouldn’t limit it to those workers. The Midlands is home to many skilled workers, and we hope to employ some of them through this project.”
Bombardier has several big contracts to complete over the coming months and says it needed the extra support to carry out the work.
He added that Bombardier is also hoping to win a contract to build Thameslink carriages and the company will discover if it has been successful “later this year".
