Portmeirion makes £1m
Portmeirion, the china manufacturer based in Stoke-on-Trent, has announced an 88 per cent rise in pre-tax profits, hitting the £1m mark. The company also revealed a 24 per cent increase in revenue to £21m in its interim results for the six months ended 30 June.
The company, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, has increased its number of staff by 39 in the past 12 months.
Dick Steele, non-executive chairman, said: "This is a strong set of results achieved despite difficult worldwide economic conditions and demonstrates the strength of our brands.
“Last year's acquisition of the Spode and Royal Worcester brands has accelerated our growth and we continue to invest in these brands. The performance of the first six months lays good foundations for the full year, and we are confident of the group's prospects."
