Green light for 2,500 houses

Proposals to create the first of three new neighbourhoods in Gainsborough have been approved by West Lindsey District Council's planning committee. The plans, subject to approval from the secretary of state, would see an extension to the south of the town to support up to 2,500 new houses.

The southern extension is the first of three planned for Gainsborough. Developments to the north and east have also been proposed.

Alongside the new neighbourhood’s housing infrastructure, the development would also include two primary schools, a medical surgery, retail units and an "energy centre" to provide low-carbon CHP heating and energy to most of the new homes.

Thonock and Southerby Estates, which owns all of the land, aims to deliver the proposals if full consent is granted.

Tom Aylmer, managing agent for the estate, said: “Assuming the final go-ahead is granted by the government, we will look to manage the process of sustainable growth to the south of the town to its conclusion and beyond, ensuring that the quality of design in the outline masterplan is reflected during the development stages.”

Savills has guided the proposals through the planning stages, while Gleeds has overseen project management. Nicholas Pearson Associates has provided the landscaping strategy and WYG Group the engineering expertise. Property advice has come from DTZ.
