BNP Paribas Real Estate has been instructed to sell a 8.28-acre development opportunity in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, on behalf of the owners Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies.

The Haarlem Mill site is located in Derby Road, Wirksworth, and comprises four buildings with an approximate net internal floor area of 39,600 sq ft. The site was formerly used as office and industrial premises. The 18th Century Mill, the 19th Century warehouse and Harlem House cottage are all listed buildings. The mill is thought to have originally been built by the industrialist Richard Arkwright and is a very early example of a steam powered factory.

David Couch, director of development and residential consulting at BNP Paribas Real Estate, said: “The Haarlem Mill site represents a rare development opportunity with Derbyshire Dales District Council and English Heritage keen to support the reuse of the listed buildings, and the site as a whole offering an attractive wooded setting and the potential to contribute to meeting Wirksworth's future housing requirements.”
