MTC development takes off

Work has started on a new £40m Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) at Ansty Park in Coventry. The centre will provide resources and a high quality environment for the development and demonstration of new technologies on an industrial scale.

The development is being supported by the Ericsson Partnership, which was set up by a group of business and civic leaders after Ericsson announced last November that it would be down-scaling its operation on the site.

The company revealed recently that about 220 posts would be remaining at Ansty Park – including 160 permanent staff.

Brian Woods-Scawen, the chairman of the partnership, said: “There is a positive story to tell at Ansty Park and it remains a jewel in the crown for Coventry, Warwickshire and the wider sub-region.

“There is activity on site now and the news that Ericsson will be remaining is very much welcome. Those remaining posts could have moved elsewhere in the region but the quality of location and working environment meant staff wanted to stay at Ansty.

“That is testament to what is happening at Ansty Park and with work starting on the MTC too, it is great to see the site getting off the ground.”

The Ericsson Partnership is made up of a range of organisations including CSWP, Job Centre Plus, Advantage West Midlands, Better West Midlands and business groups such as the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
