Cable urges businesses to trade with India

Business secretary Vince Cable is urging East Midlands companies to do more business with India. Cable made the announcement on the recent tour of India with Prime Minister David Cameron.

He said: “In the last year, the East Midlands exported £176m of goods to India, the world’s fourth largest economy. But we are nowhere near our full potential.

“There are firms in the East Midlands that are winning sales in India. They know what this huge market can offer. Exporting can make a huge difference, not just to a firm’s bottom line right now, but to its long-term prosperity. There is help on offer via UK Trade & Investment to explore this enormous market.”

During his visit to New Delhi, Cable welcomed the announcement of four UK-based deals including the production of the 100,000th JCB vehicle. One out of every two construction vehicles sold in India is a JCB, which has its UK base in the West Midlands.
