West Midlands firms have won £25m-worth of Olympic games contracts. More than 9,000 West Midlands business have registered on the CompeteFor system, the fourth highest regional total in the country. Across the region, 129 tenders have been won by 97 different firms, with a total value of more than £25m.

Firms can sign up to CompeteFor and bid for tenders at the event. The site acts as a broker, matching buyers with potential suppliers. It also offers access to business support, through Business Link.

So far, successful firms include Barhale Construction, based in Walsall, which will design and install the new sewer system on Olympic Park. Slick Seating of Redditch will supply seating for the Basketball Arena, and Shropshire-based Elements Europe has won a contract to supply 285 pre-fabricated bathroom "pods" for an accommodation block in the Olympic Village.

Helun Sandifort, programme manager for Business Link, said: “West Midlands businesses have already won contracts to deliver everything from seating and IT network equipment, to fire risk assessment surveys and textiles for London 2012 merchandise.

“There are opportunities for companies in all sectors on CompeteFor and it’s too good a chance for West Midlands businesses to ignore.”
