Eon given green light by City Council
Nottingham City Council yesterday afternoon gave the green light for Eon's new 105,000 sq ft offices in the city centre, in what a source told Insider was "almost a unanimous decision."
Eon had been looking to consolidate its Nottingham operations for some time, and has chosen the site of the former finance department of Nottingham City Council, adjacent to the Guildhall, Cornerhouse and Trinity Square.
Derby-based Miller Birch will build the new offices, which had proved controversial because of their proximity to the historic Guildhall building, and Eon says it hopes to move in by early 2012.
Maber is the architect on the scheme. When built, the offices will be home to around 1,000 full and part-time staff.
King Sturge advised Miller Birch. Matthew Smith, partner at King Sturge in Nottingham, said: " We are extremely pleased with the news. The scheme will deliver one of the city's highest quality and greenest office buildings. This sends a strong message to the wider market that Nottingham continues to attract major investment".
E.ON UK is the second largest electricity generator in the UK and owns the second largest distribution network in the UK. It is part of E.ON, the world's largest investor-owned power and gas company, which has its headquarters in Germany.
