Beer brand given £2m revival

A traditional beer brand is to get £2m of debt funding to finance an estate of branded pubs and a brewery based in Shropshire.

Former drinks industry executives Steve Nuttall and his wife Chrissie formed Joules Brewery, and plan to establish an estate of Joules-branded pubs in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Wales.

The pair, who acquired the exclusive UK rights to the Joules brand from brewing giant Coors, are currently overseeing the construction of the Market Drayton- based brewery, whichis due to open in the autumn of 2010.

It will be able produce 200 barrels of Joules’ ales every week and approximately 10,000 barrels a year.

Steve Nuttall described the project as “a real labour of love” for the pair. He added: “Some of our pubs are original Joules’ houses but our plan is for the entire estate to be restored to former glories by applying universally high standards with traditional materials.”

The £2m funding package for the venture was provided by the Co-operative bank.
