Lack of confidence in business owners "worrying"
Less than a third of small business owners in the East Midlands are confident that the region is well placed for economic recovery, according to the latest quarterly research from Clifton Asset Management (CAM).
Just 31 per cent of businesses think that the East Midlands is in a better position than the rest of the country to emerge from the economic downturn, down from 41 per cent from the last survey.
However, the region is not as pessimistic about the future as its West Midlands counterparts, where only 17 per cent believe their region is in a better position - the lowest result in the country, alongside Wales.
Seventy five per cent of business owners in London felt the capital was better placed than the country as a whole to capitalise on a return to economic normality.
Anthony Carty, director at Clifton Asset Management said: “While the region is by no means the most downbeat, it is worrying that confidence seems to be heading in the wrong direction at a time when the UK economy finally looks to be on the road to recovery.”
