£1.5m deal for haulage firm

Jamesbrook, the logistics firm based in Leicester, has won a £1.5m contract enabling it to open a new site, increase employment and invest £250,000 on new equipment.

The firm has signed a deal with World of Books, which recycles books on behalf of charities, enabling it to open a new 10,000 sq ft depot on Boston Road in Leicester. The company will also be able to launch operations in Scotland and the South West. As part of the contract, Jamesbrook’s fleet of drivers collect nearly 200 tonnes of books a week from charity shops across the UK which are then transported to the customer for sale or recycling.

Jamesbrook’s managing director James Haynes, who launched the company from his spare bedroom in 1999, commented: “The transformation has been phenomenal. In November 2008 we lost as much as £300,000 in turnover overnight during the downturn and in March last year we were forced to make a few cut backs to survive.

“In the last eight months we have taken on 17 new employees, including 13 new drivers, and we have also been able to re-employ two members of our old team.”

Funding for the equipment and the move to the new site was provided by Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) in New Walk, Leicester.
