Salts snaps up UCI Healthcare
Who?
Birmingham-based Salts Healthcare.
Did what?
Has expanded its dispensing operation with the acquisition of Oxfordshire’s UCI Healthcare for an undisclosed sum.
What does this mean?
Salts is a 300-year-old family firm based in Aston with offices across the UK, Europe and Ireland and approximately 380 employees, whilst UCI Healthcare is a dispensing appliance contractor which has three customer care centres with dispensing licences in Charlbury (Oxfordshire), Chesterfield and Newcastle upon Tyne.
Who advised?
Salts was advised on the deal by David White, partner at Grant Thornton, and Katie Silvester, corporate partner from the Birmingham office of law firm HBJ Gateley Wareing.
Insider comment:
The deal puts Salts into a market-leading position, with more customer care centres than any other provider, indicating the managers have significant ambition to continue recent success.
Peter Salt, the company’s managing director, attributes this to investment in research and development, marketing and new production equipment. He said: “Our early history shows we were originally metal workers who progressed to surgical instruments. This adaptation was borne out of our home-made, but specialist skills and the desire to innovate. The same principles apply now, especially in a global economy with pressures for cheaper products coming from across the world.”
