Nationwide to shed 240 jobs at Derbyshire HQ

Share | |

240 jobs are to be axed at the Duffield headquarters of the Derbyshire Building Society. Its owner, Nationwide, said it was closing the centre to minimise the duplication of work undertaken in other centres. Twelve Derbyshire branches in the Midlands will also close in Arnold, Buxton, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Leicester and Loughborough, as well as six others around the UK. Matthew Wyles, a director of Nationwide, said: "Since rescuing the Derbyshire Building Society during the global financial crisis of 2008/9 we have remained committed to keeping their presence on the High Street. But it has become clear that we need to make a number of changes in order to sustain their future viability." Nationwide issued a warning last month about job cuts after reporting a 46 per cent fall in annual profits to £212m.
