Midlands leading sheds surge
The Midlands accounted for nearly 60 per cent of the total take-up of industrial and distribution warehousing space (units over 100,000 sq ft) in the first quarter of 2010. According to research from Jones Lang LaSalle, leasing activity across the Midlands in the first quarter of this year reached more than 2.4m sq ft, meaning that the region has already exceeded total 2009 UK take-up volumes by 25 per cent. Due to shrinking availability of modern supply in the region, Birmingham was also the only major prime distribution warehousing market where headline rental rates have remained stable for the past 12 months.
