Dachser acquires Leach Distribution
Who?
German logistics provider Dachser.
Did what?
Has bought the UK transport and distribution business of Rochdale-based JA Leach Transport for an undisclosed sum.
What does this mean?
The deal gives Dachser a presence in the North West and adds to its existing branch offices in Northampton and Dartford. Leach operates a fleet of 40 vehicles and has more than 78,500 sq ft of warehouse space. Nick Lowe, Dachser’s UK managing director, said: “This investment will strengthen our market position in the UK and create operational synergies with Dachser’s established international network.”
JA Leach Transport's John Leach added: "I am delighted that my business, which was started by my grandfather in 1910, will be passing into a very safe pair of hands with Dachser. I am sure that this development will present great opportunities for all our staff and customers."
Dachser said that the integration of the Leach business is expected to take nine months.
Insider comment:
All of Leach’s staff will join Dachser, which employs 240 staff in the UK and approximately 17,500 worldwide. Lowe said the company was "an ideal fit" and would boost the company's existing UK network. He added that an integration process would now begin, while "new levels of investment" would be made in Leach's IT infrastructure.
