Eon to build 105,000 sq ft Nottingham office

Energy company Eon has ended its long search for new Nottingham city centre premises. The company has revealed that it has reached an agreement with developer Miller Birch for a new 105,000 sq ft, nine-storey building at the Guildhall site on the corner of Burton and North Church streets, with construction due to be completed in early 2012. Derby-based Miller Birch will build the new offices enabling Eon to finally move from Newland House. Mark Bielby, development director at Miller Birch, said: “This will be the greenest building ever constructed in Nottingham with a BREEAM excellent rating and an Energy Performance Certificate rating of ‘A’. The development will form part of this important new business quarter and will drive regeneration of the larger site and serve to maintain the level of economic activity once the Council has relocated to Loxley House.” A planning application has been lodged with Nottingham City Council. Matthew Smith from King Sturge, which acted for Miller Birch on the deal, has been working on the project for six months. He said: “This was an opportunity Miller Birch began working on late last year, and followed on from our involvement with the acquisition of Loxley House for Nottingham City Council. This is fantastic news for Nottingham, a landmark transaction of national significance that is well placed to attract further investment into the city." The Birmingham office of DTZ advised Eon.
