Ocado may deliver good news to West Midlands
Internet grocer and grocery distributor Ocado is considering a number of sites in the West Midlands as a base for a large distribution centre which will create 2,200 jobs. The group, closely associated with delivering Waitrose supermarket products, is planning a flotation after the general election and will use the proceeds to fund the distribution centre. Reports at the weekend suggested that in terms of location, it has come down to a two-way fight between the West Midlands and the south of England. It is said to be looking at three sites in the West Midlands and two in the south for the £100m, 25-acre project.
