Collins gets on his bike
Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, has set off on a 1,000-mile cycle ride from Nottingham’s Old Market Square to Cannes. Collins is aiming to raise money for charity and help Team Nottingham generate substantial interest in the city during MIPIM. He was joined on the first leg by nine other riders to form Team Invest in Nottingham. These included the council’s head of urban design, Nigel Turpin, who will complete the entire journey to Cannes, and Nottingham-born Olympic and World Cycling medallist Bryan Steel. The team will be pedalling in aid of cancer support charity Maggie’s, in particular for its appeal to raise £3m to open a centre in Nottingham.
