West Midlands building and support services group Carillion this morning reported a 16 per cent jump in profit for the year to 31 December 2009, thanks to a strong Middle East performance and contract wins in Britain. The company made a pre-tax profit of £182.2m, with revenues increasing 4 per cent to £5.4bn. The firm said it had an order book of £17.7bn last year and is optimistic about future contract wins in 2010. Philip Rogerson, Carillion chairman, said: “In view of the wider economic environment, we expect market conditions to remain challenging in 2010. However, our performance has demonstrated that the group has a resilient business mix, including strong international businesses, a substantial high-quality order book, a good pipeline of contract opportunities, good cashflow and a strong balance sheet.”
