Alliance Boots buys £23m Opus Axis
Alliance Boots has bought Opus Axis, a flagship warehouse scheme in Burton upon Trent, from Opus Land - in one of the biggest deals of its kind in three years. It is thought that the move will mean the closure of two distribution facilities in Nottinghamshire and one in Worcester as Boots consolidates its distribution outlets in the 446,000 sq ft shed that cost it some £23m. The unit on Centrum Business Park was purchased by Opus Land in 2007 from Littlewoods Group, who took a 12-month lease back before Opus undertook a comprehensive refurbishment and extension of this purpose-built distribution warehouse. Boots was represented by Lambert Smith Hampton, while Opus Land was represented by Jones Lang LaSalle, GVA Grimley and BNP Paribas. As we went to press, Boots could neither confirm nor deny whether the closure of the existing distribution facilities would mean job losses.
