Urbo seeks go-ahead for £300m Chesterfield Waterside Project
An outline planning application has been submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council for the £300m Chesterfield Waterside Project. The application is the largest ever submitted in Chesterfield and is the result of five years' work by the Chesterfield Waterside Partnership, a joint venture between the council and Urbo, the specialist regeneration company controlled by Chesterfield-based Bolsterstone and Arnold Laver Group. The proposals include a masterplan prepared by international designers Edaw/Aecom to develop a completely new 25ha urban village adjacent to the A61 on the edge of Chesterfield town centre, incorporating the former Trebor factory site. The plans include 1,550 residential houses and apartments, 2,200 sq m of retail and leisure space and 30,350 sq m of office accommodation. The development will also include two hotels, a doctor's surgery, a crèche, a health and fitness facility, a nursing home and two multistorey car parks. Chesterfield Waterside Partnership estimates that the scheme will generate 2,000 jobs.
