The deal, set up by the P&A Partnership, saves 17 jobs at GV Hale & Co.
Chris White and John Russell, partners at The P&A Partnership, were appointed joint administrators to Northern Briefs trading as GV Hale & Co, a firm specialising in criminal law with offices in Doncaster and Scunthorpe.
Following negotiations with interested parties, a sale of the company's business and assets to Nottingham-based The Johnson Partnership was completed upon their appointment on 5 November 2013 securing the jobs of the company's employees.
The Johnson Partnership offer services including criminal and business defence and a prison law service. Founded in 1990, the firm has offices in Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield and Chesterfield. In 2002, the partnership was the centre piece of a Channel 4 documentary series Partners in Crime.
Partner Digby Johnson told Insider: "The sad demise of Northern Briefs and GV Hale has provided a welcome opportunity for The Johnson Partnership to be able to expand its business and substantially increase its footprints.
"We now have a total of six offices, spread across four counties. We anticipate that we will regularly field representatives in courts in Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull and Grimsby, as well as continuing with our customary representation throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
"It is hoped that our acquisition of Northern Briefs will ensure a brighter and stronger future for a business which has grown beyond all expectation during the past decade."
Chris White of the P&A Partnership added: "It was an unfortunate chain of events which caused this firm's downfall but we are very pleased that we have been able to sell this business and protect the jobs of all the staff."
