A day in the life
A day in the life of Phil Doyle, regional director of Axis Communications. He heads up operations in both Ireland and Northern Ireland for the security camera company.
6am
I often get up at 4.30am so by 6am I’m either at the airport to fly out to other parts of the region I head up (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Ireland) or I head to the office.
If I'm office-based, I’ll try to do two to three gym sessions per week before work, so I leave home around 5.30am. I also start the day by responding to emails and checking the internet to see what's happening in the world of security, surveillance and IT.
9am-5pm
I start the day by catching up with the team and I’ll call the managers from around the region. We’re going through a rapid expansion phase right now so some of the day is spent speaking to recruitment consultants to organise interviews or to finalise offers. We have a plan to increase our resource in Northern Europe by more than 100 per cent in 2012 so this is a priority for me.
During the day, I’ll also have a number of calls and meetings with representatives from our distribution channel, our reseller programme and sometimes end users of our solutions. I try to have regular face-to-face meeting with customers to find out if we can improve performance so I can also then help the account teams focus on driving our business forward. Axis is growing by around 30 per cent a year in revenue terms so we have high levels of expectation for the year.
After work
If I'm away from home, I tend to work later and then go back to my hotel for dinner and perhaps meet with some of the team members from around the region staying at the same hotel. Depending on whether I've managed to get in to the gym that day, I'll spend time working out in the evening, check emails then I try to get an early night.
