Over 90 business people came to the Thorpe Park Hotel near Leeds on 6 October to see Mike Pickles, managing director of Normanton-based Really Useful Products, win the Gold Medal Award at Insider’s Growth 100 Awards. The awards are only open to those companies who make it onto Insider’s Growth 100 list of the fastest growing companies in Yorkshire and the Gold Medal award goes to the individual category winner who judges were most impressed by. Really Useful Products, which was borne out of the frustration Pickles found in trying to find a decent plastic box for filing when he was an accountant, also won the Innovation Award.
Property developer Oakgate Group came top of the Growth 100 list and so won the Growth 100 award, while the International award went to generator
manufacturer Allam Marine. York-based drug technology company Xceleron won the Rising Star Award for those companies whose turnover is still below £5m. And Tim Whitworth, chief executive of jeanswear retail chain Republic, won the Vistage Award for Leadership.
The awards were sponsored by Park Place Corporate Finance, Vistage International, Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, Yorkshire Science and Innovation Council, and Clarion Solicitors.
Guests were also diverted by a display of Mercedes Benz cars supplied by associate sponsor Mercedes Benz of North Yorkshire.
