More than 230 business tourism professionals, as well as conference buyers from around the country, attended the second Insider Business Tourism Awards, which saw the best in the industry acknowledged by their own peers.
The black tie dinner, held at The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, was attended by everyone who is anyone in Yorkshire’s business tourism community and kept them dancing and networking until the small hours.
Sheffield City Hall came out a particular winner, taking home the awards for best large venue. as well as the overall grand prix prize for its great achievement of increasing business tourism by 90 per cent on the previous financial year.
Nicky Lockwood, manager of Conference Leeds, was this year’s Personality of the Year and she continued to fight her cause by bringing 20 conference buyers to the event as part of their experience of Yorkshire’s business tourism offer.
The evening was compèred by Adrienne Lawler. and Joss Croft, head of business visits and events for Visit Britain, told the crowd Yorkshire’s business tourism product was particularly strong compared to other regions.
“The business tourism product in Yorkshire stands up well, not just nationally but also internationally. Sometimes it is inspired civic leadership and vision – sometimes private sector entrepreneurial drive; but no matter what the source, the strength of the product and of course the way you go about doing business is being increasingly recognised through the national awards that Yorkshire and its constituent parts and product now receive,” he said.
