Yorkshire Business Insider is to hold a Question Time-style, breakfast debate featuring an expert panel and specially invited audience.
Audience members will have the opportunity to quiz our panel on the big challenges facing the development of the sector. The panel will include top names from UK manufacturing businesses and organisations.
This is a pivotal time for Yorkshire manufacturing – a sector that is seen as fundamental to our economic recovery. The build-up of bad news from the Eurozone has battered confidence, while reduced demand from domestic markets has underlined the importance of international trade. Access to finance remains a stumbling block.
Panellists confirmed to date include:
- Andrew Cropley, executive director, University Technical College
- John Hayward, chief executive, Pressure Technologies
- Alex McWhiter, CEO, Finance Yorkshire
- Chris Rea, managing director, ASSEAL
- Margaret Wood, managing director, ICW (UK) and regional chairman, IoD
Among the topics up for debate:
- How are local manufacturers feeling about the future? Will they be recruiting or reducing their workforce this year?
- Is the government doing enough to provide a fertile environment for manufacturers to grow and innovate?
- What are the opportunities in emerging markets? Are companies confident enough to expand - and is the support there to help them?
- Is funding available to aid growth? What are investors looking for?
- How important is the renewables sector – and what are the opportunities?
- How can we ensure that Yorkshire maintains its proud heritage in manufacturing and remains at the forefront of future developments in nuclear?
- How can we inspire young people to become manufacturing’s next generation? Are we investing enough in apprenticeships?
