The regional corporate finance market was celebrated with a show of strength this year as more than 700 people gathered at Manchester Central for this year’s Insider Dealmakers Awards.
Following another extremely tough year for dealmakers, there were some new categories up for grabs, to reflect the changing marketplace. Gone were many of the individual awards in favour of recognising the work of teams to get deals done.
New additions included: New Technology Deal, which is designed to award those transactions bringing innovation and development to the forefront of our daily lives; Small Deal, which has been introduced to recognise the wealth of work that takes below the £5m mark – a vibrant area in the North West and one that has become more prevalent as bigger deals less common; and Turnaround Deal, which reflects the challenging market conditions.
Insider editor Michael Taylor called on the community to look forward into 2010 with renewed vigour. “As the market improves I am confident that you will all respond to the new opportunities as you always have in the past,” he said. “I would hope that when we meet again in a year’s time it will be under better circumstances. But the important thing is that we do meet again, whatever the circumstances.”
The event, which was compèred by BBC Sport’s Garry Richardson, raised £7,680 for the Seashell Trust, which provides support for children and adults with physical, learning and social disabilities.
