Insider’s first ever property awards in the South West showcased the region’s property excellence, with some big schemes – and big names – taking centre stage. The blue-riband award, Property Personality of the Year, was won by Bob de Barr of the Bristol Alliance and Land Securities. De Barr’s win met with general acclaim, after his eight years of overseeing Cabot Circus, Bristol’s new shopping mecca Cabot Circus, which has created a buzz around the city and further afield.
And De Barr’s company, Land Securities, had lots else to celebrate, picking up a Property Deal of the Year gong, together with Hammerson, for Cabot Circus itself – and also seeing its Princesshay scheme in Exeter named the region’s Best Regeneration Scheme for revitalising the city.
The other company with plenty to celebrate was property agency GVA Grimley, which was named Industrial Agent of the Year and Residential Agent of the Year – although it lost out to King Sturge for the office agency award. The developer with most to celebrate was Urban Splash, named Residential Developer of the Year, and Priority Sites, which won through to be crowned Commercial Developer of the Year. Also celebrating was St Modwen, whose Littlecombe Business Park development was named Sustainable Development of the Year.
Finally, among the architects, AWW narrowly saw off Stride Treglown for the title of Architects Practice of the Year: one rivalry among many that will surely be resumed next year.
