More than 350 people packed into the East Midlands Conference Centre for the seventh annual Insider East Midlands Dealmakers Dinner. And what could have been a wake after a truly tough year turned into a celebration of the resilience of the East Midlands dealmaking community.
In May 2009, Midlands Business Insider reported that this time around there would be a sense that the economy was finally on the move again, and that was the message we received all night from the cream of the professional services community assembled in Nottingham. And while dealmakers are still cautious, their pipelines are now the busiest they’ve been for some 18 months – a sure sign that we’ve turned the corner.
John Garner and his LDC team had another stellar night, picking up the Dealmaker of the Year and Funding Team of the Year awards respectively (the latter for the third year in succession), whilst the Deal of the Year went to the Synseal management buyout – a deal which many believe has restored true confidence back to the market.
The event was hosted by Chris Barrie, star of Red Dwarf and The Brittas Empire. Andy Raynor, chief executive of RSM Tenon was the guest speaker, and the chosen charity for the night was the NSPCC Childs Voice Appeal.
