Colin Gillespie of PricewaterhouseCoopers was named Dealmaker of the Year at the Insider Dealmakers Awards 2007, beating off stiff competition in an interactive vote by the assembled 850-strong audience. At the black-tie dinner, held at Manchester Central and wonderfully hosted by Gyles Brandreth, Gillespie led the field of shortlisted dealmakers, which also included: Steve O'Hare, Barclays Private Equity; Phil Adams, Altium; Andy Westbrook, Deloitte; Carl Wormald, LDC; David Ewing, ECI. The award was sponsored by Roland Dransfield PR. The second interactive vote of the night saw diners again having to make their choice for this prestigious award. The winning deal was the take-private of Matalan, another Colin Gillespie production.
