More than 300 leading dealmakers from the North East and further afield converged on
Newcastle’s Gosforth Park hotel for Insider’s second annual North East Dealmakers dinner.
Financiers
took a night off from discussing the turmoil on the football field at
St James’s Park to celebrate the region’s business success stories and
honour the individuals driving the growth of its major corporates.
It
was a great night for Andy Scaife at KPMG, who took the coveted
dealmaker of the year award, while the buyout of regional subsea
vehicle specialist SMD by Inflexion Private Equity scooped deal of the
year.
The Royal Bank of Scotland did the treble, taking both
banking awards and the specialist finance category, and it was matched
by law firm Muckle, which also took both legal categories and the young
dealmaker award courtesy of rising star Craig Swinhoe.
Receiving
his award Scaife admitted it had been a tough year for everyone in the
market, but added: “If you do things right and you’re dealing with
quality businesses then there are always deals to be done.”
