Insider Dealmakers Awards 2010 - North East
The past year has been a varied one for businesses in the North East, but that didn’t stop more than 250 advisers, funders and entrepreneurs gathering at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park in early September to celebrate the deals that got away and the hard work that has gone on in the background.
Michael Smith of Tait Walker was one of the big winners on the night, taking home the Dealmaker of the Year accolade. The firm also picked up the award for Corporate Advisory Team of the Year. This capped a very successful year for the firm to date - in July they announced that the first half of 2010 produced their best half-year results ever.
Speaking after receiving the award, Smith had some encouraging words for the corporate finance community in the region: "The future of the North East is looking very good - the market is picking up. There are a lot of good people in this room and I think it will stand us in good stead for the future."
The award for Private Equity/Venture Capital House of the Year was a very closely fought, but impressively Northstar Equity Investors took the award for the fourth year running.
Lawyer Muckle LLP was another big winner from the night, taking the company award for Corporate Law Firm of the Year. Individuals from the firm were also recognised with Nicola Loose who trained with the firm taking the Corporate Lawyer award and Phil Clare picking up the Young Dealmaker of the Year award. Muckle were also heavily involved in the winning Deal of the Year which was the sale of Visage to Hong Kong based Li & Fung.
The evening also raised £2,969 for the Children’s Foundation, a regional charity committed to improving the health of children in North East England.
