Yorkshire Business Insider is to hold a breakfast debate featuring an expert panel and specially invited audience. Together, we will discuss the big challenges facing the development and funding of the region's renewable energy sector.
The Yorkshire and Humber Renewables Debate will bring together low-carbon and renewables businesses, investors and advisors.
The timing is critical, as our energy market reaches a crossroads. Over the last 12 months, the impact of the Arab Spring on oil markets has seen commodity prices rise and the debate over nuclear power reignited.
The opportunities for Yorkshire and the Humber are myriad. The Humber coast could become one of Europe's biggest centres for offshore wind development, with turbine manufacturers and operators identifying Hull and Grimsby as possible UK bases.
This year, Able UK revealed plans to transform the south bank of the Humber into an international centre for renewable energy industries. This activity could create thousands of jobs within the renewable energy sector over the next five years as the renewable energy supply chain develops.
Business leaders and developers are also pushing hard to achieve a low carbon economy across the region. But are we doing enough to position ourselves as the UK's go-to region? What are the hurdles to overcome? Could renewable energy provide the backbone of Yorkshire and Humberside's economy for years to come?
