Insider’s economic debate road show turns its attention to the West of England in early December. A panel of leaders from business and the public sector will debate the challenges and opportunities facing the subregion in front of an invited business audience.
With the bid to form a Local Enterprise Partnership accepted, this is a crucial moment for this economic hub of the South West. Covering Bristol and Bath and the areas bordering these two important cities – South Gloucestershire and North and North East Somerset – its success is crucial to the wider region. Confirmation of the LEP means the stage should be set for the West of England to push ahead in 2011. But that means that business, academia and the local authorities will all need to pull in the same direction.
The LEP bid has set the economic agenda and priorities, and it looks like this:
Most would agree that’s a sensible summary of priorities, but there is also much to be done. What can the LEP realistically be expected to contribute, and what should fall to others?
