Each year this magazine report identifies and profiles a new crop of regional entrepreneurs (North West, Yorkshire and Midlands) under the age of 42 who are invited to a dinner.
Why 42? Why 42 under 42? It dates back to the first year of Insider and the first listing of the Corporate Elite, the movers and shakers who run industry, commerce and the professions in the North West, Yorkshire and Midlands regions. The average age of the Elite that year was 52.
Bob Waterhouse, Insider's founding editor, thought it would be a good idea to try to identify the generation behind, so he took ten years off the average age and looked for 42 up-and-coming under 42, publishing the first list in 1992. We have kept it like that, even though the average age of the Corporate Elite has fluctuated a little from year to year.
