Look at tower cranes punctuating the skyline and a good proportion will be helping build student accommodation. As universities look at rationalise campus facilities and find new ways to drive revenue onto the balance sheet, many will build places for their students to live as a good means of income for the institution and the brand.
Just last year the University of Liverpool announced plans to invest £600m in campus redevelopment, with £250m earmarked for student accommodation. At the time director of facilities management Steve Dickson said it was important to make the investment to meet demand, but also to retain the importance of students to the city, who contribute around £300m a year to the Liverpool economy.
In this feature, we will look at the health of the student accommodation market in the North West in order to understand where to work is coming from and what the future holds.
