It goes without saying that offering a decent salary is a pre-requisite for attracting the best staff, but these days, it is only part of the equation. Companies are now ranked – by national newspapers and others – in terms of how good they are to work for.
Criteria for doing well in such awards may include training - an Investors in People (IIP) commitment, perhaps - a robust corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach as part of other ‘green’ credentials, the location of your place of work and the layout inside. Even an approach that encompasses remote working and hot desking could be important to new recruits.
In a post-recessionary jobs market in which companies will be looking to grow through investing in the best quality staff – and to retain their best staff who may be looking to move on in a more flexible jobs market - the ability to offer the best possible working environment will be a big advantage.
