Physical regeneration in terms of buildings is one thing but without the right regional transport offering, the chances of attracting in quality inward investors become more limited. In Birmingham, work is finally underway on the large-scale redevelopment of New Street Station, but the city still lacks a means of getting around an extended city centre.
A lack of investment could scupper plans to extend the runway at the airport. Birmingham and Nottingham both want to be included in high-speed rail plans, and Nottingham has plans to develop its railway station.
